Betty Marie Stywater, 84, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Touchstone Living Center.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Paul Johnson will officiate. Burial of the ashes will be in Grace Hill Cemetery, Hawarden, Iowa. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Betty Marie Stywater was born on March 19, 1930, in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of Roy J. and Clara (Rise) Dowdey. She grew up in Hawarden and attended schools there. She lived in Sioux City most of her adult life. Betty worked at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City for several years and retired in 1994.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing and gardening.
She is survived by her four daughters, Linda Peterson of Omaha, Karen Rhodes of Sioux City, Deanne and Vince Thompson of Glendale, Ariz., and Amy Lynn McKeever of Sioux City; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; her brother, Gerald Dowdey of San Jose, Calif.; and her stepsister, Marcine Johnson.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jeanne Rhodes; her parents, Roy Dowdey and Clara Hamersma; and her sister, Doris Vander Helm.
