Betty Ruth Weber

Betty Ruth Weber, age 100, passed away on August 18, 2023.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 25, 2023, at Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be 9:00-10:30 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Betty was born to farmers Grace and Earl Unkel on February 15, 1923 in Hornick, Iowa. She was the oldest of three children. Her two brothers were Robert and Eldon. She graduated from Holly Springs High School in Holly Springs, Iowa. Betty worked at the Hornick Post Office until her marriage to farmer Darrel Weber of Hornick on January 16, 1944. They farmed for many years before Betty moved to Sioux City where she lived until recently. Betty and Darrel never had children, but nephew Danny spent several summers on the farm as a young boy. Betty was a member of German City Church near Holly Springs for many years before becoming a member of First Presbyterian Church in South Sioux City, Nebraska. She loved gardening and yardwork and always kept an immaculate home. She volunteered at one of the Sioux City charities for many years.

She was particularly fond of her black poodle Smokey. She had many other interests, including bowling, dancing, needlepoint, reading, walking and pets, but mostly she enjoyed visiting her many friends through the years. Betty has always been there whenever someone needed her help.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Earl Unkel and Grace Mogensen, step father Thorvald (Shorty) Mogensen, and brothers Robert (Bob) Unkel and Eldon (Buzz) Unkel.
