Bill J. Bailey, 83, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Feb. 19, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Bob Dillman of Southern Hills Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
Bill was born on June 27, 1932, in Harlan, Ky. He was raised in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Georgia and graduated from Oak Ridge High School in Oak Ridge, Tenn. He attended the University of Illinois in Urbana, and Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla.
On July 19, 1952, he married Shirley Leonard in Urbana. Bill joined the U.S. Air Force in 1949 and served until 1953. Bill worked for the National Biscuit Company. He was later transferred to Sioux City by the company.
He was a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church. Bill enjoyed playing softball, roller skating when he was young and hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Sioux City; his son, Mike (Polly) Bailey of Sioux City; two grandsons and a granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Pete (Connie), Willard and Harold Lee Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rebecca Wilson; and two sisters, Virginia and Helen.
