Billy Joe Carpenter

Billy “Bill” J. Carpenter

Billy “Bill” J. Carpenter, 50, passed away suddenly February 23, 2025, in Iowa.

A visitation will be 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Larkin Chapel, 2320 Outer Drive North. To honor Bill’s memory, the family has requested that guests wear Iowa Hawkeyes or camouflaged clothes.

Bill was born August 16th, 1974, to Darrell and Anita Carpenter at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Sioux City. He attended Hawthorne Elementary, Hoover Elementary, and North. He went to WIT Community College without getting a high school diploma. He was proud of that.

Bill fell in love with Bobbi Lasley 30 years ago, and their first date was the Ozzy Osbourne concert. It wasn’t long and Bill’s first-born Brennen Jo Carpenter entered the world on April 22nd, 1997. Three years later Beau William Leonard Carpenter was born February 14th, 2000. Bill and Bobbi made hunting and fishing their way of life. After 10 years they decided to marry on June 11th, 2005. Berklee Dale Carpenter was born September 5th, 2007.

A lot of amazing life was lived over Bill’s 50 years. If you met Bill, you had a best friend for life. His family was his priority. He always made sure his family was taken care of. From manual labor to starting a business with Ryne Ingram called Independent Construction. Everyone in his life has a special, funny, crazy moment with Bill that will forever be with us. Such as him fishing in the MWC walleye tournament with DJ Pinney or sending Brennen and Beau to Lake Erie to fish with the pro staffers to get trophy walleyes after graduating High School. That’s just a few. He also took pride in taking his dad Darrell pheasant hunting every weekend alongside of grandpa’s grandkids, making priceless memories. Bill took such pride in taking on the father role for his nephew Hunter Wayne Carpenter.

Bill could brighten anyone's day just by what came out of his mouth. The deep, growly, raspy voice that will never be forgotten and surely was one of a kind. He was unapologetically inappropriate in the best way, no filter. Bill was the best father, husband, brother, uncle, son, and best friend hands down. Hunting, fishing, loving every day! He sure did. So, hold on to all hunting, fishing, and drinking a few beers memories you had with Bill. He was definitely one of a kind. Bobbi said many times over that God hand-picked Bill for her and she will be forever grateful to have built such a beautiful life with her one and only soulmate.

Bill is survived by his wife of 30 years, Bobbi Carpenter; their three children, Brennen, Beau, and Berklee Carpenter; parents, Darrell and Anita Carpenter; siblings, John (Pam) Carpenter, and Tina (Pat) Smith; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
