On June 30, 1967, he married Phyllis "Polly" Baker in Paragould. Bill served as a supply NCO in Vietnam and was awarded the following decorations, a Bronze Star, an Army Commendation Medal and a Vietnam Combat Citation. In 1991, he and Polly started a new chapter in their life as owners of the K.O.A. Campgrounds in North Sioux City. Bill devoted countless hours, days, weeks and months making his and Polly’s an award winning K.O.A.
Bill enjoyed life, he always had to stay and share with family and friends. He loved people and always had a warm handshake or hug for all. He especially was proud of his family and always had time for them. His friendliness, enthusiasm for life and people made him a natural as a campground owner. He and Polly made many lifelong friends through the campground. In 2007, they sold the campground and started chapter three of their 46 years together. They traveled the U.S. including the ALCAN to Alaska, cruises with family and just spending more time with each other and more time with family and watching their grandchildren grow and play.
