SIOUX CITY -- Brian Wayne Van Norman, 59, of Sioux City died Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, at his residence.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Denzer officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Brian was born Jan. 30, 1951, in Sioux City, the son of Wayne "Red" and Luella (Thoms) Van Norman. He attended school and graduated from Woodbury Central High School. He continued his education at the University of Iowa, majoring in accounting and receiving his bachelor of arts degree. Following college, he attained his CPA certification. He entered the U.S. Army in 1971 and was honorably discharged in 1973.
He married Lauri Lonseth on July 16, 1977, in Sioux City. He worked for Williams and Co., and Terra Chemical for 20 years. While working at Terra, the couple lived in Arkansas, Tennessee, Indiana and Iowa. Brian was the manager of accounting and finance for GELITA USA. He also was an officer of the company, holding the position of assistant treasurer and secretary. His business responsibilities provided him with the opportunity to travel abroad and collaborate with colleagues from around the world.
He was a 30-year member of AICPA. Brian was a Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed traveling, reading, sports and he never missed a crossword puzzle in the Journal. He was an avid golfer and member of Two Rivers Golf Club.
Survivors include his wife, Lauri Van Norman of Sioux City; three daughters, Rachel and Brandon Burns of Arvada, Colo., Emily Van Norman of Omaha and Katie Van Norman and her fiance, Nick Stille of Omaha; a granddaughter, Kaylee Burns of Arvada; his twin brother, Brad Van Norman of Tucson, Ariz.; and two brothers, Ron and Edyie Lohse of Veronia, Ore., and Gary and Jeneene Lohse of Pierson, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne "Red" Van Norman and Luella Marie Van Norman; and a brother, Dennis Lohse.
Pallbearers will be Burnie Baker, Ron Halvorson, Dennis LaBrune, Rob Mayberry, Bruce Meyer and Dan Ryan.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Siouxland in Brian's name.
