CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Brooke Marie Goodwin, 32, of Correctionville passed away Monday, Dec. 22, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Robert Stout officiating. Burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery, Correctionville. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com .

Brooke was born Sept. 22, 1976, in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of David and Corliss (Camarigg) Simmons. She grew up in Quimby, Iowa, and graduated from River Valley High School in 1995. While in high school, she went to Europe and played the saxophone with the Ambassadors of Iowa. She graduated from Morningside College in 1999. She continued towards her master's degree in philanthropy.

She married Jason Goodwin on Oct. 22, 2005. Together, they made their home in Correctionville. She worked as the director of development at the Big Sioux Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association from 1999 to 2005. She then worked as director of development at the Council on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence until her health declined.

She touched the hearts of all those who knew her. Her beauty, joy of life and strength was reflected in her smile. Despite the struggles she faced with cancer, she never lost her determination to beat the disease. She remained positive and held onto her strong faith, never complaining. To the very end, she fought optimistically and full of grace. She knew that God had an ultimate plan for her life and she was at peace with that.

She was a member of Quimby Baptist Church. She enjoyed music, traveling and sports, including tennis, skiing and rollerblading, among others. She also was a member of the Quota International, Downtown Rotary, Siouxland Professional Women's Network, Association of Fund Raising Professionals, Leave a Legacy Siouxland and was a United Way volunteer. She served as a former president of the Morningside Alumni board and participated in the leadership program. She was a great organizer and planner, whether it was picnics or major events like Wine and Roses.

Survivors include her husband, Jason Goodwin of Correctionville; her parents, David and Corliss Simmons of Quimby, Iowa; a brother, Matt and Cassandra Simmons of Quimby; a sister, Ashley Marissa and Graham Forbes of Le Mars, Iowa; paternal grandparents, Phillip and Shirley Simmons of Cherokee, Iowa; her mother and father-in-law, Keith and Carol Goodwin of Correctionville; a sister-in-law, Jen and Steve Derksen of Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada; and nephews and nieces, Dylan, Audrey, Anthony and Clarsie Simmons and Jarett Forbes.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Basil and June Camarigg.
