Sergeant Bluff - Cara Mae Scofield, 96, of Sergeant Bluff passed away Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at her daughter's residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the burial, there will be a luncheon at the funeral home. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
She was born on Jan. 17, 1917, in Homer, Neb., to Walter and Lottie (Israel) Gregg and moved to Sioux City as a young child. Cara Mae attended Sioux City Public Schools.
She married Ervin W. Scofield on May 29, 1934, in Sioux City. She worked at Cudahy Packing and Armour & Company. She owned and operated Blue Sail/Pony Tap/The Office, Patty Ellen Café, The Greenville Tap and lastly the Crosstown Tavern for 50 years.
Cara Mae was a member of Third Presbyterian Church. She was very artistic and enjoyed crafts particularly ceramics at her mother's ceramic shop, and sewing. She loved making gifts for everyone. She was also an avid gambler and the boat will miss her.
Survivors include her sons, Ronald Scofield of Sioux City, and Gerald Scofield of Oakland, Iowa; a daughter, Donna Jean Doyle of Sioux City; a son-in-law, Johnny Richards of Merrillville, Ind.; 33 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Donna Peters of South Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin; a daughter, Sharon Richards; grandsons, Shane, and Jonathan; a brother, Donald Gregg; and sisters, Susan Herrin, and Norma Kay.
