SIOUX CITY -- Carl Fannon, 75, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, March 4, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Karl Luther will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Carl was born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., on Oct. 7, 1936, the son of Daniel and Martha (Hall) Fannon. He was raised in Pennsylvania and graduated from Meyers High School in 1956. In October 1956, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed at the Sioux City Air Base.
He met his wife while in Sioux City and stayed after he got out of the service. On July 2, 1960, he married Marilyn Anderson in Sioux City. Marilyn died on March 5, 1975, in Sioux City. Carl married Debra Ervin in 1976, and they later divorced. Carl was an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He leased his truck to Jerry L. Kob's Trucking. He had also worked at Flavorland Packing for several years.
Carl was a former member of Billy Sunday Tabernacle Church in Sioux City. What Carl enjoyed most was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Bryan and Jennifer of Sioux City, David of Gretna, Neb., Jon and Patty of Gretna, Joel of Sioux City, Beth Ann Fannon of Ponca, Neb., Joseph of Sioux City, James and Penny of Dixon, Neb., and Stephanie Irvin; 19 grandchildren, Cody, Paige, Zach, Haylee, Emmalee, Allyson, Jon, Kyle, Ross, Amanda, Courtney, Anna, Sarah, Aaron, Brittany, Jerika, Shellby, Breanna, and Felicty; a great-grandson, Ethan; a sister, Elizabeth; a brother, Bobby; and his special friend, Shirley Hahn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; a son, Timmy; and brothers and sisters.
