Carleton Thomas Grindberg, 91, a lifelong Sioux City resident, died on Thursday, May 27, 2021.
Carleton’s funeral will take place on Saturday, June 5, 1:00 p.m., Morningside Lutheran Church, 700 South Martha Street. Pastor David Grindberg and Pastor Tom LoVan will officiate. A Graceland Park Cemetery internment will follow the worship service.
Morningside Lutheran will host the visitation, which will take place one hour before the funeral (12:00 - 1:00 p.m.).
Carleton was born March 2, 1930 in Sioux City, Iowa to Arnold and Ellen (Wenberg) Grindberg. He grew up in Sioux City and was a 1948 East High School graduate. During the Korean War, Carleton enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed on Hokkaido Island (Japan) where he served as a radio operator. After his honorable discharge, he secured a job with Iowa Public Service where he eventually managed the company’s shareholder records. On February 16, 1957 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Carleton married Della Blades. The couple had two children, David and Douglas.
Carleton was an active member of Morningside Lutheran Church and Vasa, a Swedish-American cultural organization.
Survivors include his two sons: David (Jill) of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and Douglas (Teddi) of Saint Paul, Minnesota, nine grandchildren: Jacob (Caitlin) Grindberg, Erin Grindberg, Christian (Ashley) Grindberg, Karine (Jared) Feddersen, Kjerstin (Calvin) Brandt, Karianna Grindberg, Nathan Reeder, Harrison (Kezia) Reeder, and Graham (Brenda) Reeder, one brother, Arnold of Surfside Beach, Texas, twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carleton is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and three sisters: Margret Webb, Marion Fountain, and Dorothy Hodapp.
