Carol Ann Gehl (Cours)

SIOUX CITY -- Carol Ann Gehl, 70, of Sioux City died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2011, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Merlin Schrad and the Rev. Lawrence Burns will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Carol Ann was born July 10,1941, in Chicago Heights, Ill., the daughter of Milton and Marion (Matern) Cours. Carol was raised in Sioux City and graduated from Heelan High School in 1960. She attended N.B.T. Business College. Her mother, Marion, married Eugene Kelly and he became a very important part of Carol's life.
She married Henry F. Gehl on Oct. 26, 1963 in Sioux City. They later divorced. She worked as a counselor and therapist in the mental health field. She worked at Schoitz Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. She had to retire due to health problems.
She was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and was a strong advocate for mental health. The joy of her life was her two sons.
She is survived by her mother, Marion Kelly of Sioux City; two sons, Eugene and his wife, Mary of Davenport, Iowa, and Joe of Santa Barbara, Calif.; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Kyley; a stepsister, Cheri Joslin; two stepbrothers, Michael and Dick Monlux; and many cousins.
She was preceded in death by father; stepfather, Eugene Kelly; her beloved grandmother, Kathryn Marten; beloved aunt, Helen "Toni" Hanson; and two stepbrothers.
A memorial has been established in her name for Siouxland Mental Health and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
