Carol A. Hewett, 78, of Sioux City, passed away Monday, March 21, 2016, at home.
Services will be noon Friday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tim Squires, of Hope Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.
Carol was born Nov. 19, 1937, in Ticonic, Iowa, the daughter of Claude L. and Estella (Jenkins) Miller. She was raised in the Smithland, Iowa, area and graduated from Smithland High School.
Carol married Larry Swain Oct. 12, 1957 in Soldier, Iowa. He died on July 1, 1965. Carol married Allan West Aug. 4, 1967. They lived in Sloan, Iowa. They later divorced.
Carol moved to Sioux City and graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing. On June 29, 1984, she married Frank Hewett in Sioux City. Frank passed away Jan. 3, 2001, in Sioux City.
Carol worked as an RN at Mercy Medical Center for more than 20 years, working both at the hospital and Mercy Home Health Care. She retired in 2002.
Carol had been a resident of Sioux City for the past 33 years. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and the Silver Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She was a volunteer at the Sioux City Public Museum.
She loved antiquing, doing needlework, gardening, playing bridge and reading.
Survivors include her children, Monty West of Omaha, Neb., Lonny West of Ute, Iowa, Bruce West of Hornick, Iowa, and Jill Omyegbule of Sioux City; stepdaughters, Kathy (Stan) Hewett Smith of Kingston, N.Y., Christine Austin of California and Cynthia Johnson of North Liberty, Iowa; stepsons, Matthew (Cathy) Hewett of Sioux City and Timothy (Kathy) Hewett of Carlsbad, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her brother, Keith (Alice) Miller of Mapleton, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Larry Swain and Frank Hewett; five sisters, Bethine Morse, Wilma Johnson, Elizabeth Nutt, Jeannine Clemon and Frieda Lundeen; and two brothers, Russell Miller and Roy Miller.
