HINTON, Iowa -- Carol Anne Tschampl, 69, of rural Hinton died Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at her residence from complication with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gary B. Snyder officiating and the Rev. Gerald Feierfeil and Monsignor Richard E. Zenk co-celebrants. An Honor guard will be conducted by the St. Vincent School of Nursing Alumni Association. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, with military rites. Carol was born Sept. 24, 1941, in Sioux City, the daughter of Casper and Caroline M. (Uhl) Meier. She was raised in Danbury, Iowa, and came to Sioux City to graduate from Heelan High School in 1959. She graduated from St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1962.
She married Alois Tschampl on Sept. 29, 1962, in Danbury. She served with the U.S. Army Nursing Corps from 1963 to 1964. The couple lived in Sioux City until 1978, when they moved to rural Hinton. She was a registered nurse. She was employed at St. Vincent Hospital, St. Joseph Hospital and Marian Health Center.
She was a member of St. Vincent School of Nursing Alumni Association. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and a former member of St. Casimer Catholic Church and St. Francis Catholic Church.
She took art classes at Morningside College, and was a master ceramitist, working with ceramics and porcelain. She had her own kiln. She competed in county and state fairs with her porcelain dolls, needle work and produce. She also made a porcelain chess set for her husband. She was also a seamstress and enjoyed sewing clothes for her doll collection and her children. She was a volunteer at Trinity Heights for 15 years. She also enjoyed camping with her family and was an avid reader.
Survivors include her husband, Alois Tschampl of rural Hinton; eight children, Alois C. Tschampl and his wife, Wendy of Minneapolis, James E. Tschampl of Green Bay, Wis., Carol Lee Tschampl-Diesing and her husband, Roger of Bellevue, Neb., Rebecca Lynn Gonzales and her husband, Anthony of Lewisville, Texas, Mark A. Tschampl and his wife, Beth of Mountain Home, Idaho, Cynthia Ann Tschampl of Cambridge, Mass., Heidi Marie Gizaw and her husband, Gabriel of Suffolk, Va., and Michael J. Tschampl of Ames, Iowa; two sisters, Corrine M. Griffin and her husband, Thomas of Broad Run, Va., and Pauline T. Meier of Seattle, Wash.; a brother, Paul L. Meier of St. Augustine, Fla.; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Pallbearers will be Paul Meier, Bernie Biraki, Roger Diesing, Tony Gonzales, Gabriel Gizaw and Alex Tschampl-Diesing.
