SIOUX CITY -- Caroline "Sue" Holmes, 55, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at a local hospital, following a long illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael J. Erpelding, pastor of St. Joseph Church, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be sent to

Caroline was born Feb. 1, 1954, in Sioux City, to Wilbur S. and Harriet C. (Reilly) Calhoon. She graduated from Heelan High School in 1972. She then attended beauty school. Caroline was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She was a self-employed beautician. She also was a secretary and office manager for a number of trucking companies in Sioux City.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Caroline enjoyed dancing and music. She had a wonderful heart and was always willing to help others. But most of all, she loved her family, children and grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters, Michelle Holmes, Samantha Emerick, and Tiffany Bourassa and her husband Tim of Sioux City; her better half, Jeff Jansen of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Kylie Rider, Renee Emerick, Steven Emerick, Emma Holmes, Shae Bourassa, Zsuzsana Bourassa and Isis Bourassa; a brother, Michael J. "Jim" Calhoon of Sioux City; three sisters, Catherine M. Dennis of Bronson, Iowa, Jean Marie "Jeannie" Calhoon of Sioux City and Cheryl A. "Annie" Mahacek and her husband Larry of North Sioux City; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Theresa E. Calhoon and Elizabeth E. "Liz" Calhoon; and her niece, Tasha.
