Carolyn Jean Anderson, 78, of Papillion, formerly of Sioux City, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Bellevue, Neb.
A funeral service will be 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, at Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Morningside, with visitation one hour prior. Any donations received will be forwarded to the South Sioux City Cardinal Educational Foundation in Carolyn's name.
Carolyn Jean Meyer, the daughter of Harold and Anna (Brechwald) Meyer, was born Sept. 26, 1939, in Cherokee, Iowa. She grew up in Quimby, Iowa and graduated from Washta High School in 1957. Carolyn went on to earn her Teaching Certificate from Westmar College and then her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa.
On June 8, 1963, Carolyn was united in marriage with Arthur “Wayne” Anderson in The Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. She had various teaching and substitute teaching positions while raising her children. Carolyn taught second grade at Emerson Elementary in Sioux City for four years and kindergarten at Lewis and Clark Elementary School in South Sioux City for 22 years, until her retirement. The couple moved to Nebraska in 2015.
Carolyn was a former member of Immaculate Conception Church and volunteered for Special Troopers Adaptive Riding School (STARS).
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Wayne of Papillion; her daughters, Julie (Tim) Sorensen of Papillion, Jerri (Bill) Salber of Omaha, Jill (Patrick) Amundson of Vermillion, S.D.; seven grandchildren, Colin and Katelyn Sorensen, Billy, Marissa, and Madison Salber, Megan and Morgan Amundson; a brother, Ken (Carol) Meyer of Philomath, Ore.; a sister, Joyce Green of Laughlin, Nev.; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister,
Marilyn.
