Carolyn Leah Hunt (DeHaan)

Carolyn Leah Hunt, 67, of Sioux City passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2008, at her residence with her family and friends at her side, following a lengthy fight with cancer.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Heartland Community Baptist Church in Sioux City, with Pastor Gene Stockton officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Carolyn was born Oct. 9, 1940, in Sioux City, to Arie B. Jr. and Alma (Mathewsen) DeHaan. She grew up in the Riverside area of Sioux City and attended Central High School. She was a board member for the Siouxland Community Health Center. She worked for the Senior Companion Program and Oakleaf Management. She loved her work and everyone she worked with.

On Nov. 22, 1958, she married Walter S. Niebaum. This marriage lasted four years. On Jan. 4, 1980, she married Darrell Hunt. They were married for 10 years.

Carolyn loved to play pool and was very good at it.

Survivors include five children, Kris and husband, Steve Mead of Georgia, Bonnie Harrison and best friend, Jeff Finken of Sioux City, Jennifer and husband, Michael Kudis of Minnesota, Shelly and husband, Brian Kampfe of Sioux City, and Michael and wife, Marchael Niebaum of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, Jay, Casey, Heather, Brandon, Michael, Matthew, Samantha, Saphrie, Faith, Devin and Autumn; seven great-grandchildren, Kandiss, Kyley, Ethan, Shaylee, Isabelle, Kaden and KodaJaydence; a sister, Sally Griffen of Le Mars, Iowa; and a brother, John DeHaan of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Roger and Jim.
