Carolyn Marie Johnson, 81, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Sunrise Retirement Home.
Services will be 5 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Visitation will be 2 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
Carolyn, the daughter of Ernest and Wilma (Fenton) Johnson of Bronson, Iowa, was born at the Methodist Hospital in Sioux City. She lived on the family farm during her childhood and graduated from Bronson Community School. She attended Westmar College and graduated in 1962. Carolyn began her teaching career in Kingsley, Iowa, where she taught for three years. After receiving her college degree, she began teaching at Washington Elementary in Sioux City and taught there for 34 years. Teaching was her life. She retired in 1996.
She was active in religious, professional, and civic organizations all of her life. Being kind and giving was her motto. Carolyn will be remembered by the many lives she touched. Over her lifetime, she loved flowers, especially roses that grew in her backyard. Carolyn was interested in sports, nature, wild life, animals, and loved visiting with friends.
Carolyn is survived by her brother, Lloyd (Nancy) Johnson of North Sioux City; nephews, Doug (Linda) Johnson, David (Shirley) Johnson, and Paul Johnson; many dear friends; and her cat, Mocha.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
