SIOUX CITY -- Carolyn A. Swanson, 71, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at Countryside Senior Living following complications of a stroke she suffered seven years ago.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ryan Christenson, pastor of St. James United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Carolyn was born on Feb. 5, 1937, in Worthington, Minn., the daughter of Franklin and Luvena (McGee) Roos. The family moved to Sioux City in 1952, and she graduated from Central High School.
She married Robert "Bob" L. Swanson on Feb. 7, 1959, in Sioux City. Carolyn worked many years as a shoe sales clerk, working for J.C. Penney's and later for Rudolph's Shoes. She retired in 1997.
She was very outgoing and enjoyed meeting and visiting with people. Carolyn enjoyed family and friends and traveling through the Colorado Mountains and the Albuquerque and Santa Fe, N.M. area. She also enjoyed cooking, (a great cook), fishing and "pull tabs".
Survivors include her husband; a son, Kevin of Sioux City; a daughter, Jana (John) Palmesano of Omaha; three grandchildren, Kyle, Joey and Kelli Palmesano; three brothers, Frank (Carolyn) Roos of Santa Cruz, Calif., Bob (Diane) Roos of Lynden, Wash., and Don Roos of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five sisters, Joan Dawson of Newark, Calif., Judy McGee of Las Vegas, Nev., Linda (Paul) Bolden of Seattle, Wash., Vena (Rodney) Blackmore of Hinton, Iowa, and Maralyn Baker of Council Bluffs, Iowa; as well as 17 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jim Roos; and a sister, Ruthie McCaffery.
Memorials in her name may be directed to St. James United Methodist Church or Hospice of Siouxland.
