Casimir "Casey" Stephany

SIOUX CITY -- Casimir "Casey" Stephany, 80, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Nov. 13, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital. Casey was an organ donor.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Valerie Heller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Casey was born March 18, 1929, in Polonia, Canada, to John and Stephania (Kostkiewicz) Stephany. At the age of one, he moved with his family to Ganado, Texas, where he grew up and attended school. After graduation from high school, he obtained his business degree from Draughon's Business School. He started working for Central Power and Light at the age of 19. He retired from there 37 years later at the age of 56.

He lived in Texas until he moved to Sioux City to marry Ruth Taylor on Nov. 23, 1984. Plans were made for their 25th anniversary celebration.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Grace Seniors Group and volunteered his time operating the sound system at the church. He played Santa Claus for several groups. He enjoyed gardening, yard work and being a full-time grampy. He enjoyed his Czech and Polish music, traveling, feeding the squirrels and his pets.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Stephany of Sioux City; stepdaughters, Sharon and Steve Haack of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Cynthia and Charlie Macku of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Tricia and Rick Hahn of Sioux City; grandchildren, Ryan, Brook Ann, Joseph, Ashley, Ellen, Nicole, Katie and Emma; a brother-in-law, Joe Russo Sr. of Texas City, Texas; two nieces, Stephanie and Axel Hilden of Texas City and Donna and Jim Svoboda of Lumberton, Texas; three nephews, Joe Russo, John and Wendy Russo and Mark and Tami Russo, all of Texas City; and many grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Sophie and Jane; and a stepson, David Perry.
