JEFFERSON, S.D. -- Catherine EP "Pat" Erickson, 63, of Jefferson went home to be with her Lord surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, after a courageous seven-month battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be made at

Catherine Elizabeth Patricia (better known as Pat to everyone) Erickson was born on Dec. 21, 1948, in Hertford County, Dub District of Hitchin, London, England, United Kingdom, daughter of William Joseph and Catherine Rose (Vallely) Hyland. She completed her formal schooling in South London, England, United Kingdom. In 1965, her family immigrated to Australia by ship.
On May 25, 1968, she was united in marriage to Raymond Erickson in Sydney, Australia. The couple lived in Sydney for a time before moving to the United States in June 1970. They lived a short time in Canton, S.D. In 1972, the family moved to Jefferson, S.D., where she lived out the remainder of her life.
She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Parish in Jefferson until about 2011. Patricia volunteered many hours at the Catholic Church in Jefferson. She was very active in school functions at St. Peter's School, including P.T.A., Mother's Club and Catholic Daughters. She began attending services at Morningside Lutheran Church.
She worked many jobs throughout Siouxland, including IBP, Zenith, Jefferson Cafe, Harvey's Cafe, Diamond Cafe, Hy-Vee and Crystal Cafe, where she just celebrated her 25th anniversary with Crystal Oil Company.
Pat loved to travel, read, shop, restaurant food shows and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Ray Sr.; three sons, Raymond (Vicki) Erickson Jr. of Atlantic, Iowa, Samuel Erickson of Jefferson, and William (Kelly) Erickson of Plattsmouth, Neb.; a daughter, Jaclyn (Jason) Saltzgiver of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Ty (Amanda) Hickman, Kylee Saltzgiver, Eva Saltzgiver, Kody Saltzgiver, Ziek Johnson, Trystan Erickson and Garrett Erickson; two great-grandchildren, Emily Baier-Fisher and Max Hickman; brothers, William Hyland of Brisbane, Australia, and Peter Hyland of Manchester, England; a sister, Ann Whatson of Sydney, Australia; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; closest and dearest friend, Patsy Martineck; and all employees and patrons of the Crystal Cafe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Joseph and Catherine Rose Hyland; a daughter, Rose Marie; two grandchildren, Madeline Erickson and William "Austin" Erickson; parents-in-law, Alma and William Erickson; two brothers-in-law, Sandy and Charles Erickson; and a sister-in-law, Erma Erickson.
