Catherine M. Goertz, 92, of Sioux City died Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Casa De Paz in Sioux City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in South Sioux City. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Catherine was born May 17, 1923, in Waterbury, Neb., the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Gill) Hogan. She grew up in Waterbury, graduating from Waterbury High School.
Catherine married Howard "Jeff" Goertz on July 23, 1942. Together they made their home around Siouxland, finally settling in Sioux City in 1958. Jeff died Oct. 31, 2002.
Catherine enjoyed quilting (which she made for all the family), playing solitaire, cooking, baking, gardening and taking care of her flowers, feeding the birds and listening to the scanner.
She is survived by three sons, Jim (Cheri) Goertz of Hillsboro, N.D., Tim (Theresa) Goertz of Hornick, Iowa, and Keith (Nadine Paul) Goertz of Sioux City; four daughters, Lois Daniels of South Sioux City, Cathie (Denny) Carlson of Sioux Falls, S.D., Cindy Ackerman of Sioux Falls, and Rita (Brian) Blanchard of Freemont, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; two sisters, Marge Rooney of Hubbard, Neb., and Helen Kavanaugh of South Sioux City.
Catherine is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jeff; five children, Jeanne, Julie, Joe, Tony and Jerry; grandson, Chuck Levine; great-granddaughter, Hannah Carlson; three brothers; and three sisters.
