SIOUX CITY -- Catherine L. Simons, 24, of Sioux City died Sunday, Nov. 29, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital following a 13-month battle with esophageal cancer.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, with Dr. Tony Nester officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8

Catherine was born Feb. 24, 1985, in Sioux City, the daughter of Roger and Cindy (Smith) Posey. She had always lived in Sioux City, graduating from East High School in 2003. She graduated from Morningside College in 2007, with a degree in elementary education and special education. She had worked towards her master's degree with more than 15 hours additional education.
On June 7, 2008, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Patrick Simons. She had been teaching behavioral disorders at Whitter Elementary School and was to have started teaching the second grade this fall.
She was very active in area autism programs with both children and adults. She worked the summer months for the Extended Year Autism Program. She also loved her Great Dane, Montey.
She is survived by her husband, Patrick; her parents, Roger and Cindy Posey of Sioux City; her brother, Andy Posey and his fiancee, Ashley Zevenbergen of Sioux City; parents-in-law, Bill and Denise Simons of Sioux City; brother-in-law, Christopher Simons of Des Moines; Patrick's grandmother, Yvonne Akers of Randolph, Neb.; and many special cousins and wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
