Cathleen “Cathy” Ann Wolfe, 69, passed away after a battle with rare cancer on Monday, March 3, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Cathy had requested that no events take place, but her children are disobeying her one last time. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave.
Cathy was born on September 11, 1955, to Harold E. and Mary I. (Buckland) Wolfe in Sioux City, IA. She grew up in Morningside and graduated from East High School. She later went to Western Iowa Tech Community College (WITCC) for stenography, which led to a lot of hard-to-decipher texts for her family later in life.
Cathy married Corky Cook in 1975, and they were blessed with Zach, Elisha, and a wonderful stepdaughter, Jessica. The couple later divorced. Cathy had a long-time relationship with Denny Barber, and welcomed his sons Scott, Chad, and Benjamin as her own. Family was important to Cathy, and she enjoyed watching Scott and Chad become fathers. She loved spending time with their children: Nathan, Ellie, Toni, Braden, and Bailey.
Cathy was a longtime employee at Swanson Vending Company, where she met many friends and became well known for having the best candy cupboard anyone had ever seen. After Swanson closed, Cathy semi-retired to be a stay-at-home grandma. She loved every minute and even watched other kids to help out. She then worked at the Siouxland Surgery Center and Northern Hills Assisted Living.
Cathy’s absolute favorite thing to do was be with and support her friends and family. She could always be found on the sidelines and heard “screaming” from across the track/field/wrestling mat (with sometimes “colorful” language). She was looking forward to seeing Evan “#1” triumph in his senior track season and graduate.
Cathy welcomed everyone with a smile that could light up a room, and a laugh that could be heard from anywhere. Being known for her “frugality” still wouldn’t stop her from giving food away, letting friends and family stay with her, or anything else she could do to help.
Cathy is survived by Kevin Roost of South Sioux City, who provided many laughs and comfort for the last 14 years; her children, Zach (fiancé Amy Pierce) Cook of Sioux City, Elisha Cook of Sioux City, and Jessica (Gordon) LeDoux of Tipton, Iowa; grandchildren, Stephen Pierce, Sammy Cardona, Lilly “Lil” (Hasten) Michaels, Evan #1 Teager, Tori Vikel, Brycen Vikel, Alyvia Vikel, and Dalton Vikel; great-grandchild (and her biggest joy), Everett “B.B., Big Boy” Michaels; and her siblings, Sue Wolfe of Arizona, Dan Wolfe of Sioux City, Jim Wolfe of Bronson, and Eileen (Kim) Taylor of Hinton.
