Charles E. Daugherty, 85, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Holy Spirit Retirement Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Charles Wolff officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
He was born on May 26, 1929, in Whiting, Iowa, to Charles A. and Gladys (Morris) Daugherty. Charles served in the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1947.
He married Sue Carol Hedger in 1948. She preceded him in death in 1997. He later married Jean Brown in 1979. She preceded him in death in 2005. Charles worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, Sioux City Foundry, the city of Sioux City, and Sioux City Community Schools, where he retired in 1990.
Survivors include his daughters, Linda (Jerry) Carver, and Vicky (Tom) Freeman; sons, Edward (Diana) Daugherty, and Tim (Kim) Daugherty; stepdaughter, Verna (Fred) Hayden; sister, Virginia Jauron; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Sue Carol Daugherty and Jean Daugherty; daughter, Anita Thorson; son, Thomas Daugherty; stepdaughter, Teena Johnson; stepson, Vernon Brown; and brother-in-law, Raymond Jauron.
