Charles Leo Forney

June 24, 1923 — October 7, 2014

Charles Leo Forney, 91, Sioux City, formerly of Hornick, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2014, at his residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Charles Leo Forney was born on June 24, 1923, in Holly Springs, the son of Charles and Elizabeth (Becker) Forney. He was raised in Holly Springs and graduated from Holly Springs Public School in 1940. He entered the U.S. Army in 1943 and served in the southwest Pacific until his discharge in October 1945.
On Aug. 12, 1945, he married Myrna Jean Beebe in German City, Iowa. He and Myrna spent five years operating a service station in Holly Springs before moving to Omaha. He then worked for nine years before returning to the Hornick area to farm. Charles farmed in the Holly Springs and Hornick area for 25 years before taking a job at the Sioux City Gateway Airport. He retired from there in June 1988.
Besides his grandchildren, he enjoyed dancing, walks, visiting with neighbors and friends, and helping them with maintenance and lawn mowing. He took up painting and wood carving after his retirement. He was a member of American Legion Post 492 in Hornick.
Charles is survived by his son, Chuck and his wife, Diana of Flower Mound, Texas; grandchildren, Amanda of Plano, Texas, and Alex of Flower Mound; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and brother and sisters, Everett Forney, Mabel Schibonski, June Madsen, Marian Piercy, Evelyn Sexton and Gail Lloyd.
