Charles R. Green, 77, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at Hallmark Care Center in Sioux City, with his family by his side.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, 2100 Jackson St., in Sioux City, with the Rev. Kenneth Wells officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
He was born on June 21, 1937, in Onawa, Iowa, to Henry and Nora (Stevens). Charles served in the U.S. Army in Korea. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he began his career at Sulzbach Construction, where he made many friends. From there, Charles started C.R. Green Construction.
He married Carolyn Steward on Jan. 18, 1969, at First Christian Church in Onawa. In 1984, he and his wife began C&C Pillow Cleaning Service. During this time, he also drove bus for Sioux City Transit. But undoubtedly his passion was found when he began driving bus for the Sioux City Community School District. Charles adored each child and even became Honorary Grandpa and close friend to many. He could most recently be found brightening days as greeter at Sam's Club. Charles always made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
His family is incredibly fortunate to have him as a best friend, husband, dad, a grandpa buddy, pa, and uncle and so much more. While his first priority was his family, Charles also enjoyed gardening, tinkering in his garage, visiting with his many friends, and cooking and canning with his wife.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Green; a son, Glen (Kay) Green; daughters, Vanease (Doug) Kraft, and Rachelle (Kevin) Counter; grandchildren, Nick Burgess, Sarah (Adam) Pierce, Alizabeth (Kevin) Powell, Raymond Van Der Vliet, and Jayden Kooyman; great-grandchildren, Jocelyn, Chelsea, Delaney, and Parker Pierce, Blake Powell, and Tripton Van Der Vliet; sisters-in-law, Naomi Green, Ann Green, Diane (Jim) Klein, and Bonnie Coleman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
