Charles Alvin Kilzer, 68 of Sioux City, Iowa died on Friday, May 19, 2023, surrounded by his family.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel located at 1801 Morningside Ave. Sioux City, Iowa 51106 with Neil Peck CLS officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
Charles was born Thursday, January 20, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Alvin and Lula (Mortenson) Kilzer. He grew up on a family farm outside of Smithland, IA. He attended Westwood Community School. Charles married Pearl Schroeder on October 21, 1972, at Oto, IA. The couple made Sioux City their home and raised two sons, Jeff, and Jason. Charles was a truck driver for Staber Meats and Missouri Valley Steel during his career.
His hobbies included camping, yard work, gardening and going to the casino with Pearl. Charlie loved being a grandfather, he enjoyed teaching the grandkids how to plant and take care of a vegetable garden, camp and fish. He was known for his pristine yard in Leeds and made sure all the grandkids knew the way to keep the yard looking great. He went to all the grandkids sporting events and other activities. He would be sure to tell all his friends, how wonderful the grandkids were when he went to coffee.
Survivors include his wife Pearl, two sons, Jeff (Mary) Kilzer of Sioux City, IA and Jason (Becca) Kilzer of Sioux City, IA. four grandchildren; Lacey (Matt) Kern, Max Kilzer, Sam Kilzer and Lily Kilzer, three great grandchildren; Madison Kilzer, Laura Kern and Theodore Kern, three siblings; Marlyne Cook of Sioux City, IA, Karen Stanley of Sergeant Bluff, IA and Janet (Randy) Dougherty of Adamsville, AL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
