Charles Hagie "Chuck" Logan was born in Sioux City, on Mother's Day in 1952. Chuck spent his grade school years in Moville, with mother, Ila Jeanne, father, Howard, and sisters, Jane and Amy. As a boy he loved taking things apart and putting them (mostly) back together, building model rockets, chatting on his ham radio and participating in Boy Scouts, where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
College led Chuck to Iowa State University, where he joined the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and studied engineering, which was a springboard for his career in software engineering. As a perpetual tinkerer, his career afforded him opportunities to improve an array of life-saving healthcare devices, to develop voting systems that allowed the disabled to vote in privacy, and to make important advancements in solar energy. Charles is credited with several patents from these endeavors. In his spare time, he tinkered with cars, computers, telescopes, and anything else that moved or made noise. He enjoyed traveling, barbecuing on his Big Green Egg, spending time with family and friends, playing guitar, attending Colorado Eagles hockey games and sipping a fine single malt scotch.
Chuck's wanderlust began at a young age, spurred by family road trips to Canada and a trip overseas to Japan. He hitch-hiked from Iowa to Washington, D.C. with a fraternity brother in 1971, a trip he dubbed, "A really freakin scary road trip." Chuck traveled extensively for business and pleasure. For the past few summers he had joined his father, Howard, and sister, Jane, on barge trips in France and Scotland, and he was always looking forward to springtime on the beach with family in Caneel Bay, St. John, USVI.
Throughout his life, Chuck was passionate to be a Fiji and was excited to have been recently appointed to the board of directors of the Iowa State University chapter of Phi Gamma Delta. Pig Dinner was one of his favorite reasons to journey back home.
Though an Iowan at heart, Chuck spent his post-University life living in the Pacific Northwest and along the front range of Colorado. In 1982, Chuck married Valerie Logan, and two years later they welcomed their son, Alexander Friday. Daughter, Mallory McElrath followed soon after in 1985.
Charles is survived by his father, Howard; sisters, Amy and Jane; former wife and friend, Valerie; son, Alex; daughter, Mallory; and grandson, Harlan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ila Jeanne.
