Charles Michael Rush

JACKSON, Neb. -- Charles M. "Charlie" Rush, 91, of Jackson died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Paul Albenesius officiating. Burial will be in South Creek Cemetery, Ponca, Neb. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary, at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Larkin Chapel in Sioux City.

Charlie was born Feb. 24, 1916, on a farm in rural Dixon County, Neb., the son of Thomas and Margaret (Logue) Rush. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and was in the Battle of the Bulge.

On Feb. 9, 1948, he married Rose A. Izzo in Sioux City. He lived most of his life in Dixon and Dakota counties. He farmed for many years. Rose died at her home on Feb. 27, 1991.

He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He was a honorary life member of the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Father Tracey Council 3844. He served as a Dakota County commissioner for several years. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Harty-McNally Post in Jackson. He was a loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by his son and his wife, Dr. Charles "Chuck" and Cathy Rush of Omaha; six grandchildren, Katie and Matt Mendlick, Debbie and Jeff Jones, Kellie Rush and Tim, Tom and Terry Rush three great-grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan Mendlick and Aiden Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and his brothers and sisters.

Pallbearers will be Tim Rush, Terry Rush, Tom Rush, Allen Bauman, Rodney Bauman and Tom Beller.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial had been established in his name for the American Legion Harty-McNally Post in Jackson.
