Charles E. "Tommy" Tomlinson

SIOUX CITY -- Charles E. "Tommy" Tomlinson, 90, of Sioux City died Sunday, May 2, 2010, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Valerie Heller will be officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Charles was born Nov. 18, 1919, in Des Moines, the son of Charles and Meda (Thomas) Tomlinson. He was raised in Cambridge, Iowa, and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1935. He then came to Sioux City to attend business school. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed in the European Theater.
In January 1941, he married Isabell Vander Schoor in Sioux City. Charles worked as a supervisor for Swift & Co. until it closed in Sioux City in 1968. He then moved to Rochelle, Ill., until he retired in 1978. The couple moved back to Sioux City in 1995. Isabell died on Oct. 22, 1995, in Sioux City.
Charles was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and had served as an usher at the church. He was a member of the Masons and he was an avid golfer and bowler. Charles won the Iowa State Bowling Tournament in 1974.
He is survived by his two sons, Ed and Rita of Sioux City, and Jim and Jane of Sioux Falls, S.D.; seven grandchildren, Tammy Trudeau, Tina and Bob Johnson, Tonia and Dean Sieperda, Teri and John Stoos, Eddie and Kristina Tomlinson, Tom Tomlinson, and Katie Tomlinson. He was blessed with 12 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Ruth Knaack of Green Valley, Ariz.
He was preceded by his parents; his wife; a son, Leslie; and four brothers, Les, Paul, Melvin and Rex.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Tomlinson, Bob Johnson, Dean Sieperda, Tom Tomlinson, Austin Trudeau and Zach Johnson.
