Cheryl Ann Uknis, 86, of Sioux City died Sunday, May 31, 2015, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Calvary Cemetery, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Cheryl was born on Jan. 18, 1929, in Omaha, the daughter of Gail and Geneva (Lindburg) Hamilton Sr. She was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1947.
On July 22, 1950, she married Joseph Uknis in Sioux City. Cheryl worked as an advertising manager for Holmes and Hudson for 24 years. She then worked for Wincharger for many years. After she retired, she worked part-time at Green Gables. Joe died on Dec. 13, 2002, in Sioux City.
Cheryl was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a former member of St. Casimir Catholic Church. She also served as the secretary for the St. Casimir Rosary Society. Cheryl was a longtime member of the Catholic Daughter of the Americas, Ave Maria Court and had served as vice regent for the group. She loved reading and enjoyed bowling for the Wincharger Bowling Team.
She is survived by her brother, Robin L. Hamilton of Denver, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Gail Hamilton Jr.
