Sioux City - Chester "Bill" Eastling, 87, of Sioux City passed away June 10, 2014, at his home in Riverside.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Riverside Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Tim Squier and Tess Panamarrow officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Casual attire or jeans is suggested as per Bill’s request. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
He was born on March 5, 1927, in Norfolk, Va., to Lloyd and Loretta (Earlich) Eastling. Bill moved to Sioux City when he was five and graduated from Central High School in 1947.
He married Leonora Fravel on Dec. 17, 1955, at Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca, Neb. Bill served aboard the USS Edward C. Daly and an L.S.M. in the Asiatic Pacific Theater in World War II. Bill worked in the sheet metal trade for 39 years, retiring from Metal Specialists in 1989.
He was a member of Riverside Lutheran Church and the American Legion Post 134 in Elk Point, SD. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and spending time at his cabin near Springfield S.D. Bill was a friend to everyone and he never met a stranger. He was a wonderful husband, devoted father, and a most adored grandpa.
Survivors include his wife, Leonora Eastling; daughter, Billie Jo and Terry Pomerenke; grandchildren, Clint Eastling, Jonni Eastling, Teryn Rother, Shelby Lakes, and Kelsie Pomerenke; three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Mark Allen Eastling.
