Cindy Michelle Puttman, 49, Dakota Dunes, passed peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family, after a seven year battle with stage four colon cancer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tom LoVan officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, the family will be present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel ,Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave.
Cindy was born in Sioux City, on July 7, 1967, to Walter J. and Charlene (Mattson) Balmer. Cindy graduated from East High School in 1985. She earned her social work degree at USD in 1989.
Cindy married Ryan Puttman in Oct. 16, 1999 at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Ryan and Cindy have two sons, Shay and Maxx. Cindy has lived in Dakota Dunes the last 10 years. Cindy worked for Lutheran Social Services for nine years right after college. In 1998, Cindy went to work at Briar Cliff, doing talent search.
She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church. Cindy was a former member of Junior League and United Way of Siouxland. Cindy enjoyed Elfredo's Pizza, scrap booking, reading, watching movies, playing cards (cribbage), traveling and watching her boys play basketball and football. Cindy enjoyed going to her happy place, Okoboji.
Survivors include her husband, Ryan; two sons, Shay and Maxx; her parents, Walter and Charlene Balmer; one brother, Craig M. Balmer in Orlando, Fla. and his children, Madison and Jack; two sisters, Teresa A Balmer of Carmel Lake, N.Y., Laurie Lee Horner and her husband, Jeff North Sioux City, and their children, Ean and Abbie; parents-in-law, Kathy Reid (Wally) of Dakota Dunes; sister-in-law, Tara Puttman of Sioux City; uncle, William Murray of Richfield, Minn.; cousin, Debbie (Jay) Hoekstra of Apple Valley, Minn.; her doxie dogs, Fenway and T-Rex; two sister friends, Jody (Tom) Wente M.D. of Dakota Dunes, and Lynne (Jim) Walker of Wynstone, S.D.; and their mother, Pat Lewis of Sioux City.
Cindy was preceded in death by an aunt, Lucille Murray; and grandparents, Charles and Laurene Mattson, and Jack and Mildred Balmer.
Family wishes to thank Hospice of Siouxland and her nurse, Wendy, and social worker, Christy.
