Claire Darlene Cox (Buschkervitz)

South Sioux City - Claire Darlene (Wunder) Cox, 99, of South Sioux City, formerly of Fort Dodge, Iowa, entered God's kingdom Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at her residence.
Services will be 7:30 p.m. today at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Visitation will be 6:30 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home. Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at Gunderson Funeral Home in Fort Dodge. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Claire was born on April 11, 1913, in Jolley, Iowa, although according to family ancestry findings her actual birth date was in 1912. Soon after that, the family moved to a farm in Ware, Iowa. In Claire’s teen years, her parents retired from farming and moved to Des Moines where she graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1929.
After completing high school, Claire was employed by J.C. Penney in Des Moines. While in Des Moines, Claire worked with Sam Walton (Wal-Mart), spent evenings at the Moon Light Inn, where she knew Dutch Reagan (President Reagan), and even met J.C. Penney himself. In Des Moines, she became an avid golfer and won many tournaments.
She met her husband Clifton Cox in Des Moines. They were married on Nov. 9, 1946, in Kansas, and moved to Fort Dodge, where he was a schoolteacher. Claire was a stay-at-home mom until their daughter, Marilyn, left for college. At that time, Claire was employed by Earl May Garden Center, and ended her working career as front desk manager at the Holiday Inn. She moved to South Sioux City after the death of her husband.
Claire enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards, and dining out. She will be remembered for her wonderful pies, potato salad and ribs. Claire was a member of Sunnybrook Community Church in Sioux City.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn and son-in-law, Bruce Kelly of South Sioux City; and granddaughters, Karyn of South Sioux City, and Annie of Vermillion, S.D. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary (Bill) Cox of Des Moines; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Karen; her parents; and eight brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers in Sioux City are Gary Kaiser, Bob Jensen, Kent Greenleaf, Dr. Don Wender, Alan Gibson, and Dan Dykstra. Fort Dodge pallbearers are John Goode, Bob Cox, Steve Gretenburg, and Kenny Freund.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Siouxland.
