Clarence Jack Dalke

SIOUX CITY -- Clarence J. "Jack" Dalke, 84, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Embassy Care Center in Sergeant Bluff.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Feierfeild of Church of the Nativity officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com .
Clarence was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Eureka, S.D., to Jacob and Fredricka (Hoffman) Dalke. He moved to Brookings, S.D. and later Redfield, S.D. He served in the U.S. Navy from March 28, 1942, to December 1945. During his enlistment, he received the Pacific Theater Ribbon and the European Theater Ribbon along with two Bronze Stars. He was discharged with the rank of boatswain's mate first class.
After his discharge, he moved to Hartford, S.D. and completed his high school education. He later moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. and attended Nettleton Business College for three years. He later attended South Dakota State University in Brookings. He was employed at this time by Fruehauf Trailer Company.
On Sept. 23, 1947, he married Rozella "Kitty" Gillen at St. George's Catholic Church in Hartford, S.D. In 1966, he was transferred to Sioux City. He was employed at the Sioux City plant until he retired in 1986.
He enjoyed walking, Iowa Hawkeyes football and basketball and time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Kitty of Sioux City; two sons, Tom and Dolores of Sioux City and Bill and Kim of Sergeant Bluff; seven grandchildren, Angie Bates, Billy, Brent, Brian, Chelon and Wade Dalke and Cory Hicks; and three great-grandchildren, David, Wyatt Bates and Michael Dalke.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bob Dalke; his parents; two brothers, Ed and Alvin Dalke; and five sisters, Irene McDougall, Ella Dalke, Ida Shurtleff, Viola Parker and Adeline Christie.
