SIOUX CITY -- Clarence "Jim" Dyer, 97, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, at Whispering Creek Active Retirement Community in Sioux City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Clarence "Jim" Dyer was born July 26, 1914, in Bronson, Iowa, to William and Frona (Crittenton) Dyer. Clarence & Florence Hutchinson were married June 5, 1937, in Sioux City and celebrated their 74th Anniversary.
He was a member of an antique car club. Jim enjoyed buying old cars, restoring them and driving them in parades. Many of these cars earned him trophies. His second love was the outdoors, the country and his acreage.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; daughters, Sharon Ray and Karen (Al) Saltzman; grandchildren, Christina and Candice, Kenneth and Richard; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Teegan; a sister, Melvina Kisting; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank and Bud; sisters, Mae, Bert and Dorothy; and grandson, Mike.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland or Cooking with Love at St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
