Clarence Theodore "Ted" Peterson, 83, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Morningside Church of Christ. The Rev. Kelly Turney will officiate. A private family inurnment will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Ted was born on Dec. 28, 1931, to Carl and Edna (Stevenson) Peterson in Cherokee, Iowa, where he grew up and graduated from Larrabee High in 1949.
He was united in marriage to Darlene Morton on Dec. 21, 1952. Ted and Darlene lived in Hutchinson, Kan., where he enlisted with the U.S. Navy and served as an aircraft mechanic. He was stationed for one year in Japan and served with the Fleet Air Service Squadron. They returned to Cherokee and owned and operated Peterson Refrigeration Service until moving to Sioux City in 1970. In 1980, they founded Peterson Air Conditioning and Heating Service in Sioux City and operated it until they sold it to their son.
Ted was a member of Morningside Church of Christ.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Jane (Jim) Scott of Columbia, Mo., David (Patty) Peterson of Sioux City, and Patti Gill of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Julie) Scott, Katherine (Fred) Wolfmeyer, Benjamin (Cydney) Gill, Tessa Gill, Alyssa Gill (Andy Ott), Sammy Peterson and Nate Peterson; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Gilbert (Norma) of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ralph (Dottie) of Wichita, Kan.; sister, Jeraldine (Louie) Hammer of Pocahontas, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years; his parents; brothers, Elmo, Paul, Karl and Ernest Peterson; and sisters, Celesta Roseen, Burnette Johnston, Jean Smith, Roberta Jones and Nellie Berg.
