BRONSON, Iowa -- Claude B. Smith, 84, of Bronson passed away Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson, with Pastor Peggy Hegeman officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.
Claude was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Montana Township, Jewell County, Kan., the son of Joseph M. and Maggie (Kelly) Smith. He was raised in Superior, Neb. Claude moved to the Climbing Hill/Bronson area in 1956 and had been a resident of the area ever since.
He was united in marriage to Vivian Cox-Hoover on Oct. 7, 1961, in Lawton, Iowa. She passed away on July 24, 2007, in Sioux City. Claude was a farmer and a Mobil Oil tank service consignee in the Bronson area for 20 years.
He was a member of Elliott Creek Presbyterian Church in Bronson. He enjoyed baseball, especially the Cubs and Yankees. He loved his animals, especially his livestock and enjoyed taking care of his acreage.
Survivors include his children, Carol and her husband, Harold Taylor of Lyons, Neb., Richard and Sue Smith of Ida Grove, Iowa, Steve Hoover of Florida, Ernie Joe Smith of Vacaville, Calif., Al and Susie Smith of Bronson, and Claudene Ruhrer of Sioux City; grandchildren, Shawn and Cyndi Smith of Hoschton, Ga., Ryan Smith of Jefferson, Ga., Dax Ruhrer and Brent Ruhrer, both of Sioux City and Tyler Huff of Des Moines; six great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Roy and Wanda Smith of Denver, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and two brothers, Bill and Earl Smith of Superior, Neb.
