SIOUX CITY -- Clifford "C C" Hughes, 85, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tony Nester officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to

C C was born July 2, 1925, in rural Bloomfield, Neb., to Clifford and Martha (Carr) Hughes. He grew up on a farm in the Bloomfield, Lindy and Niobrara, Neb., area. In April 1945, he entered the U.S. Army. He served with the Honor Guard for General Douglas MacArthur in Tokyo. After his discharge in December 1946, he moved to Sioux City.
C C and Evelyn Andersen were married on Oct. 5, 1947, in Hubbard, Neb. He worked for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 38 years, retiring in July 1985.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 580 and American Legion Post 697.
C C is survived by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn; daughters, Diane and husband, Mike Blake and Anita and husband, Greg Zarr, both of Aurelia, Iowa; grandchildren, Ryan and wife, Joy Harrison, Dustin Harrison and fiancee, Amanda Smith, Hilary and Allyson Zarr; great-grandchildren, Keyra and Sebastian Harrison; sister, Hilma Klein of Washington; sisters-in-law, Alma Hughes and Mary Hughes, both of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, Harold and Wilfred; sister, Leona Pattee; brothers-in-law, Leroy Pattee and Fred Klein.
