Clyde Vincent Hoffman

NORTH SIOUX CITY -- Clyde Vincent Hoffman, 82, of North Sioux City passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011, at his home following a lengthy illness, with his family by his side.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating and the Rev. Brent Lingle co-officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery at Jefferson, S.D. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.

Clyde was born Jan. 22, 1929, to Frank A. and Thalia (Fountain) Hoffman in Union County, S.D. He graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, S.D., in 1947. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict.

Clyde married Patricia "Pat" Null on Jan. 26, 1957, in Jefferson, S.D. To this union, seven children were born. He farmed full time and worked part time on a loading dock. He then worked several years as a rural mail carrier; yet still had time to spend with the kids at the end of the day, playing basketball and softball and enjoyed attending activities that they were involved in.

He was a member of Jefferson Catholic Church and later joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Pat, of 54 years; three sons, Terry "Duster" (Sherry), Victor (Karen) and Kevin (Courtney), all of North Sioux City; three daughters, Sheryl Honomichl of North Sioux City, Carol (Ron) Brumage of Byers Colo., and Carmen (Paul) Wagner of Salix, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, Corey (Carrie), Derek, Stacey (Josh Morey) Hoffman; Dan (Jenna), Amanda, Mary and Jessica Honomichl; Angela, Ronnie Jr. and Nicole Brumage; Justin and David Wagner; Haley, Ben, Vincent and Vaughn Hoffman; one great-grandson, Lucas Morey and one great-grandchild to arrive in June; one brother, Dean (Karen) Hoffman and one sister-in-law, Agnes Hoffman, all from Jefferson; brothers-in-law, Aaron Null of Sioux City, and Virgil Null of Centerville, S.D.; sisters-in-law, Vivian McCormick of North Carolina, Bonnie Monfort of Wisconsin, and Nellye (Stan) Goodell of Washington; along with many, many nephews and nieces.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janet Hoffman; grandson, Curt Hoffman; brothers, Frances "Bud" and Tibertus "Joe" Hoffman; a niece, Valerie Rubida and nephew, Gregory Hoffman, all of Jefferson; in-laws, Doris Null and Merlin Null of Sioux City, Earl and Dorothy Smith, Ethel and Tom Martin, Earl and Bobbi Null, all of Washington, Hoyt McCormick of North Carolina, Henry Monfort of Wisconsin, and Jackie Null of Centerville, S.D.
