MOVILLE, Iowa -- Coe Leta Ann Groth, 77, of Moville died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, in Sioux City.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, with the Rev. Mark J. Stoll and Monsignor Roger Augustine officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Coe Leta was born Dec. 6, 1930, in Sioux City, the daughter of Clarence and Loraine (Tabke) Neville. She was raised near Lawton, Iowa, until the age of 10, when she moved with her family to the Climbing Hill, Iowa, area. She graduated from Climbing Hill High School in 1948. She continued her education and received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Iowa State University.
She married Leo Groth on Jan. 17, 1954 in Moville. Together, they made their home in Cheyenne, Wyo., for a short time before returning to the Climbing Hill area. She began her teaching career in Garner, Iowa. She also taught in Bronson, Lawton and Smithland, Iowa, and more than 20 years in Sioux City at Riverside, West High School and East High School. The couple moved to Moville in 1979. She retired in 1992, but continued to substitute in the area. For the past 15 years, the couple wintered in Texas.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America. She was a 27-year member of the American Legion Wink-Sparks Post 303 Auxiliary, Sigma Kappa Sorority, the Red Hat Ladies, T.O.P.S., Siouxland Home Ec Club, Sioux City Education Association, Siouxland Good Sam Camping Group, Moville Merry Maidens and a 4-H leader for many years. She loved attending all the children's and grandchildren's events and activities. She also enjoyed being a food and clothing judge at all the county fairs in the area, gardening, farming, canning and seamstress work.
Survivors include her husband, Leo Groth of Moville; four children and spouses, Marlin and Kathi Groth of Moville, Patricia and Randy Hanson of Moville, Coleen Barclay of Sioux City and Lyndon and Lori Groth of Lawton, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Shelly, Teresa, Becky, Tina, Ben, Shelli, Stacey, Brianne, Trista, Luke and Jake; a great-grandchild, Mikai; a brother and his wife, Loren and Jean Neville of Moville; a sister, Mary Jacoby of Kent, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Irma Neville of Moville; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Byron Neville.
