Corinne Joyce Meyer (Huffman)

Sioux City - Corinne Joyce Meyer, 84, of Sioux City went home to be with her three favorite guys, Jesus, her husband, Richard, and her son, David, on Monday, April 8, 2013, surrounded by her loved ones.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Russell Senstad and David Zirpel officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Corinne was born March 31, 1929, in Clark, S.D., to Frank W. and Irma K (Peters) Huffman. She was raised in Clark, Remsen, Iowa, and Sioux City. She graduated from Sioux City’s East High School in 1947 and earned her teaching degree from Morningside College. Corinne taught school in Turin, Iowa, Smithland, Iowa, Hinton, Iowa, and at Hopkins school in Sioux City.
On Oct. 3, 1959, she married Richard Meyer at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She and Richard took many trips together through Richard’s work with Aid Association for Lutherans and enjoyed time spent together at their cabin. Corinne was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, and she sang in the church choir as well as the Siouxland Women’s Club Chorus. She was a member of LORL and LWML and had served a term as zone president of the organization. She loved taking care of her roses, playing the piano, doing word search puzzles, knitting slippers and feeding the birds - not the squirrels. The most important part of her life was spending time with her children and grandchildren and all of her family. Richard died Dec. 29, 2002, in Sioux City.
She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Tara Ann and Wayne VanderWeil of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Meyer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four grandchildren, Laurel Meyer, Andrew Meyer, Kevin VanderWeil and Grace Ann VanderWeil; her brother and his wife, Keith and Audrey Huffman of Sioux City; and her brother-in-law and his wife, Robert and Phyllis Meyer of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son, David.
