NORTH SIOUX CITY -- Cornelius "Con" A. Mansfield, 84, of North Sioux City died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at his residence, while under Hospice care, surrounded by his family following a year-long battle with lung cancer.
Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Craig A. Collison officiating. Mr. Mansfield was cremated according to his wishes. Burial of his cremated remains will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to

Con was born on March 1, 1926, in Sioux City, the son of John P. and Clara L. (Murphy) Mansfield. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Jefferson High School in Jefferson, S.D. in 1944.
He married Elizabeth A. "Betty" Broveak on Oct. 4, 1947, in Sioux City. Con was a painting contractor. He was employed by Howe Improvement and then went to work for Hardy & Payer. He started Mansfield Painting & Decorating Co., operating the company from 1972 to 1988, when he retired. He was a lifelong resident of the Siouxland area.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Con enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and wood carving, and he was always tinkering.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Mansfield of North Sioux City; his son and daughter-in-law, Craig and Linda Mansfield of Sioux City; his daughter and her partner, Nancy C. Narciso and Dan Moss of Dakota City; six grandchildren, Travis and Columba Mansfield of San Antonio, Texas, Jason and Dixie Brown of Sioux City, Amy and Marvin Hines of Sioux City, Angie and Scott Peplinski of Sioux City, Greg and Sharon Mansfield of Council Bluffs, and Joey and Brian Maiso of Council Bluffs; 13 great-grandchildren; and Judy Neal of Sioux City, the partner of Gary Mansfield; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Mansfield; his mother, Clara Tschill; his father, Jack Mansfield; and his sister, Margaret Ann Bernard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Brown, Travis Mansfield, Greg Mansfield, Marvin Hines, Scott Peplinski, Dan Moos, Melvin Olson, Ray Speckman and Bob Carlson.
