Cynthia Ann Carruth, 48, of Houston, Texas, formerly of Sioux City, passed away April 28, 2008, at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston after a nine-year courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside Lutheran Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Charles Wolfe officiating. Burial of the ashes will be at a later date. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Berkemier Chapel in Sioux City.
Cynthia was born in Lynwood, Calif., on Nov. 16, 1959, the daughter of Gordon and Gloria (Thorstenson) Doran. She was raised in Sioux City and graduated from West High School and Briar Cliff University. She worked several jobs in Sioux City while going to school. She married Robert Carruth; they later separated.
After moving to Houston, she worked at Martin Fein Interest Ltd. as a accounting specialist. She thoroughly loved her jobs and co-workers. She did volunteer work for the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation in Houston.
She enjoyed doing yoga and loved to travel and play tour guide for anyone who would come to visit. She especially loved spending time with her nieces, whom she was devoted to.
She is survived by her mother, Gloria Finken of North Sioux City; two brothers and their wives, James and Cathy Doran and Don and Kim Doran, all of Sioux City; her nieces and nephews, Alicia, Amber and Kayla Doran, Mitzi Chapman and Cory Chapman; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; stepsisters and their husbands, Julie and Lynn Lymaack, Amy and Bill Swinehart and Christy and Jeff Hillyer; and stepbrothers and their wives, Mike and Gail Fitzpatrick and William and Dionne Finken.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father, Gordon Doran; and her stepfather, Ronald Finken.
