MOVILLE, Iowa -- Nell Riser, 92, of Moville died Monday, June 23, 2008, at Char-Mac Assisted Living in Lawton, Iowa.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Moville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery. Nell was born Aug. 7, 1915, near Oto, Iowa, the daughter of Ed and Alice (Clark) McClaran. She attended school in the area and graduated from Correctionville (Iowa) High School in 1932. She continued her education at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa and received her teacher's certificate.
She married Roscoe Riser on May 24, 1938 in Salix, Iowa. She continued her education and received her bachelor's degree from Morningside College in 1969. She was a teacher and taught country school for five years before teaching elementary school at Lawton-Bronson for more than 19 years. Roscoe died in 1990.
She was a member of Moville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Moville Women's Club, the Garden Club and the Senior Center. She also was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a past Worthy Matron. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and crocheting.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Nick and Joyce Riser of Sioux City, Dave and Gilda Riser of Canfield, Ohio, and Steve and Dianne Riser of Moville; a daughter and her husband, Sally and Ron Emerson of Clarion, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice May and Ed Worth McClaran; her husband, Roscoe Riser; a brother, Lauren McClaran; and three sisters, Murial Needham, Beulah Warriner and Ruth Hall.
