Dale was born on April 18, 1949 in Sioux City, IA. The son of Bill and Mary (Flynn) Slate. He lived in Sioux City all of his life and graduated from Heelan High School in 1967. He was united in marriage to Karal (Chan) Bowker on December 12, 1969.
He was employed at the packing house and as a car mechanic for years. Later on he became his own boss as a carpenter, just like his father. His excellent work is enjoyed by his many customers. He retired in 2001 due to illness.
Almost every morning you could find him enjoying coffee and making “little smokies” for his Speedy Lube family. You know who you are Zack!
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, making homemade jelly and salsa for them, working on puzzles and enjoyed getting together once a month with longtime friends of fifty years.
His greatest joy was spending time with his wife and son.
Survivors include his wife Karal Slate of 52 years and his only son John Slate, siblings, Dave (Teresa) Slate of Cambridge, IA, JoAnne (Eugene) Potter of Sioux City, IA, Danny (Sandy) Slate of Seaford, DE, Jean Griffin of Owasso, OK, Jane (Marvin) Whitlock of Waukee, IA, Mary Kay Miller of Mesa, AZ, Laurie Scofield of Sioux City, IA, (Linda) Slate of Sioux City, IA, Teresa (Ron) Lemke of Sioux City, IA and many nieces and nephews.
