Sioux City - Dallas Montford Lahrs, 92, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2013, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Dallas M. was born on Oct. 25, 1920, to Henry Lahrs and Della (Brotherton) Lahrs, and was raised in northeast Nebraska. Dallas was inducted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 23, 1942, and served with the 185th Infantry. He served in the Philippines and Luzan Campaigns as a machine gunner heavy 605 until Nov. 27, 1945. He then farmed with his father near Allen, Neb., for a short time.
He married Geraldine E. McManigal on Oct. 3, 1950, in South Sioux City. They celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2010. He worked as a truck driver, operating his own truck for many years.
He enjoyed woodworking and in his retirement, the couple started a business called Seams 'n Sawdust.
Survivors include a daughter, Pam Lahrs and son-in-law, Colin Jordan of Portland, Ore.; sons, Dallas D. Lahrs of Sioux City, and Daryl Lahrs of Bronson, Iowa; grandsons, Nick and his wife, Courtney Lahrs of Bronson, Nate and his wife, Amy Lahrs of Lawton, Iowa, and Nelson Lahrs of Bronson; great-granddaughters, Peyton, Paige and Sydney; great-grandson, Carter; a niece, Della (Lindahl) and her husband, David Rasmussen of Homer, Neb.; nephews, John and his wife, Diane Lindahl of of Linn Grove, Iowa, and Larry and his wife, Mary Lindahl of Melissa, Texas; many special grandnieces and nephews; cousins; and many wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister, Connie (Lahrs) and brother-in-law, Lawrence Lindahl; and a daughter-in-law, Babette (Perley) Lahrs.
