SIOUX CITY -- Daniel P. "The Rev." Evans, 61, of Sioux City passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Dan was born May 17, 1947, in South Gate, Calif., to Russel and Alvera (Higgins) Evans. The family moved to Sioux City when he was 12 years old and he had been a resident ever since.
He fought for his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, stationed with the 35th Infantry Regiment.
He was employed as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service for 21 years. He also was a driver for Arrow Stage Lines for several years.
He was very proud of his affiliation with the National Association of Letter Carriers, Soo Cycle Club and the River City Anglers. He was a lifetime member of the beloved National Rifle Association and the American Motorcycle Association.
Survivors include his children, Todd and Melissa Evans, Eric Evans, Brandy and Kevin Pettit, Charles Evans and Grant Evans, all of Sioux City; seven grandchildren, Scott, Alex, Matt, Lindsey, Cameron, Nichole and Guy; his mother, Alvera of Sioux City; a sister, Donna Gamble of Montana; and his many good friends at Marty's Tap and The Crosstown.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a brother, Russel.
