SIOUX CITY -- Daniel Lee Jensen, 56, Sioux City, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Central Baptist Church. Pastor Fred Penner will officiate. Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the church. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. The Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel is handling the arrangements.
Dan was born on April 24, 1954, at his home in Laurel, Neb. He was the son of Marvin and Gladys (Stokes) Jensen. Dan moved to Sioux City at the age of six. He attended Sioux City Schools and was a member of the last graduating class from Central High School in 1972. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force. He then attended Western Iowa Tech where he specialized in solar energy. He conducted energy audits in this area. He sold solar energy equipment and was a supervisor for road building for the Irving Jensen Construction Company. Dan was a grant writer for SIMPCO and later was the Transit Manager for the City of Sioux City. He went out on disability in 2005. He was instrumental in getting the grants for the Martin Luther King Transit Building. He had the original idea for the 911 Center at Western Iowa Tech. Dan did volunteer work and was currently serving on the board of directors for the Woodbury County Community Action Agency.
Dan married the love of his life and soul mate Donna (Sadler), whom he called wifey, on Feb. 22, 1990. With that union came a special daughter Angie and later a son, little buddy, Colton. He put his family first, with special attention to his grandchildren.
Dan was a champion Junker, he would always find something valuable in junk. He also loved going to rummage sales. He loved people and visiting with them. He really enjoyed card games with his wifey, family, and friends. He would do anything for anybody, he was a person who never needed to be asked to help. He was the first to say I will be there. Dan had many cars and enjoyed every one of them. Not to mention he had a great zest for life.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; his daughter, Angela and her husband Darin Miller of Sioux City; his son, Colton Jensen of Sioux City; 3 grandchildren, Kennadi (Shortie), Natalee (little Lee) and Braxton Miller; his parents, Marvin and Gladys Jensen of Sioux City; 2 sisters and their husbands, Cindy (Sis) and John Pacheco, Debra and Michael Murphy, all of Albuquerque, N.M; a brother and his wife, Dennis and Shelia of South Sioux City; sister in-law and her husband, Vicki and Bob Hansel; a brother in law and his wife, Jon and Shelly Sadler; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by in-laws, Betty and Vernon Tott and Don Sadler.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jon and Leesa Nylen, Gary Grieve, Bob Bulit, Paul Rasmussen, Bob and Vicki Hansel, Rob Groves, Jerry Moore, Jeff Thompson, Bob Bradhan, Jake Anderson, Scott Carlson, Mary and Don Stokes, Clarence Holcomb, Klaus Schmid and all the other people that touched his life, too numerous to mention.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
