JEFFERSON, S.D. -- Daniel E. McKelvey, 62, of Jefferson passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at a Yankton, S.D., hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with Pastor Chuck Wolff of Riverside Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Daniel was born on April 5, 1946, in Sioux City to Robert and Gwen (Tresham) McKelvey. He was raised in the North Sioux City area, attended and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
He married Robbie Creek in Correctionville, Iowa, on March 22, 1969. He had been a longtime resident of the North Sioux City and Jefferson area. He was a self-employed carpet layer. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and fishing.
Survivors include his children, Leslee and Tom Jones and Daniel Jr. and Christina McKelvey, all of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three grandchildren, Tyler, Kacee and Braydee Jones; his mother, Gwen McKelvey of Jefferson, S.D.; two sisters, Scoot and Roger Jordan of Elk Point, S.D. and Muff Saylor of Jefferson; three brothers, Punk and Betty McKelvey of Elk Point, Bill and Donna McKelvey and Ronnie McKelvey, all of Jefferson; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
